Policy Date: March 4, 2013

The Mechanical Contracting Education & Research Foundation (MCERF) takes the privacy and security of the users of our website seriously. This page is designed to explain our information gathering procedures and security measures and answer any concerns that you may have about what information we collect and how it is used. As always, after reading through this policy, if you have any further questions, you are encouraged to call us at (301) 869-5800.

Who We Are

The MCERF is the non-profit foundation arm of the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA). Our mission is to identify and work to solve the mega-issues that confront the organized mechanical construction and service industry, challenges such as future workforce, productivity, and technology.  We lend both professional and neutral insights into these issues; one that could work fluidly across organizational and political boundaries.  We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

This website is operated by MCERF. We are located at 1385 Piccard Drive Rockville, MD 20850. Our phone number is (301) 869-5800. You can also contact us via our online form here.

Collection and Use of Personal Information

Throughout our site, we may ask for personal information in the following instances:
  • to make a charitable contribution
  • to apply for an internship grant
  • to fill out the contact us form
  • to apply for research funding
  • to submit a pledge card
In no case will we share this information with anyone outside of the MCERF national headquarters unless you explicitly tell us to do so. The only exception to this is when sharing of your information is required in order to complete your transaction on our website. These instances include authorizing us to charge your credit card when making a charitable contribution.  By completing an online donation form, you are giving us permission to collect that personal information about you and share it with the necessary third parties in order to complete your requested transaction. In all instances, your personal and payment information will be handled securely. In cases like these, we will ask you for personal information such as name, company, address, contact information and specific criteria that is established for donation. You will also be asked to provide payment information such as credit card numbers. Contact information is used for notification purposes (i.e., to confirm program registration) or when necessary for customer service. Payment information is used only to bill you for programs, products and services that you specifically request.

In addition, MCERF may analyze related data collected when you browse our site within our office to help us learn how to improve our services to meet your needs. This information will include no payment or transactional data. Use of this website implies permission to use your personal data for this purpose. This information will not be shared with other parties.

Security for Your Transactions

MCERF maintains the highest level security available for all of your online transactions with us, keeps up with industry best practices for secure Internet payment processing and processes payments only with third parties who do the same. You should be aware, however, that “perfect security” does not exist on the Internet, and third parties may unlawfully intercept or access transmissions or private communications.

For those who are new to the Internet or have concerns about the highly-publicized problem of Identity Theft in a "connected" world, we encourage you to visit the Federal Trade Commission's special "Fighting Back Against Identity Theft" website at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/idtheft/consumers/deter-detect-defend.html where you will find clear information on what identity theft is and how to protect yourself against it.

Anti-Spam Policy

MCERF also protects your privacy by extending this policy to 3rd parties. We do not provide e-mail lists to outside entities. In these ways, we firmly reinforce our stance against "spam." If you receive a 3rd party e-mail appearing to represent itself as having come from or been endorsed by MCERF, please forward it to the Webmaster, who will take appropriate action.

If other instances occur where we would deem it necessary to share your e-mail or other personal information, we would first tell you of our need to do so and give you the opportunity to decline prior to disclosing the information.

"Cookies"

The MCERF website sometimes uses "cookies" to enhance navigation and to provide conveniences to you. Cookies are small text files that may contain personal information about you and are saved to your hard disk drive. The advantage to using cookies is that they eliminate the need for you to fill out repetitive online forms or provide a password each time you log into an area.

Some are concerned about cookies and would prefer that they not be saved on their hard drives. If you do not want to use cookies, you may turn them off in the configuration page of your web browser. In doing so, however, please be advised that you may either be prompted for a password each time you access a private area or that you may be unable to access all of the features on our website.

Indemnity

By using this site, you agree to indemnify and hold MCERF and its employees and agents harmless from any claim or demand, including attorney's fees, made by any third party due to or arising out of your use of this site or the materials on it.

Termination

MCERF reserves the right to restrict access to this site to any user, and may at any time in its sole discretion with or without notice and with or without cause immediately deny access to this site by any person, including persons who previously had access.

Changes to Our Privacy Policy

This policy statement is dated. If we change the policy, we will also change date at the top of this page so that users can tell that a change has been made. We may make minor changes from time to time as our services change and as the Internet evolves. If we plan to make a significant change in the way in which we collect, use, or disclose personal information, we will notify registrants of our site of the change.
