Student Chapters & Chapter Grants

HISTORY

Since 1998, MCAA's Student Chapter Program, a national network of chapters in colleges and universities, has introduced interested students to the career opportunities and benefits that are available through the mechanical contracting industry.  Generous funding from the Mechanical Contracting Education & Research Foundation (MCERF) helps student chapter members augment their education and professional development through:

  • MCAA's GreatFutures Forum [1] is the place where contractors and students come together for the best employment opportunities. It's where the serious business of pursuing a great future in the mechanical contracting industry comes face to face with the serious fun of meeting new people and future employers and employees!
  • The Student Chapter Competition, which challenges chapters to prepare a bid package for a real mechanical construction project for cash prizes and industry-wide recognition.
  • MCAA's annual convention, which enables students to showcase their talents, skills, and credentials for contractors who might later serve as mentors or employers.

CHAPTER GRANTS

Grants help fund MCAA student chapter operations and scholarships and faculty advisors’ summer employment with MCAA contractor members.  All the grants are funded by MCERF.  Please note: all applications for Chapter Grants are due annually by May 1.  Applications are to be completed only by the student chapter faculty advisor.

The student chapter grants are open to all chartered MCAA student chapters.  The Chapter of Excellence Grant [2] is for well-established and thriving chapters and provides $5,000 in scholarships and $2,500 for chapter operations—projects, field trips, travel to the Student Chapter Summit and/or the MCAA convention, fundraising events.  The E [3]merging Chapter Grant [3] [3]is for new or rebuilding chapters and provides $3,000 for chapter operations and/or student scholarships.
