The most important factor in predicting the success of a student chapter is the presence of a dedicated and enthusiastic faculty advisor. To recognize and reward these exceptional individuals, the MCAA Career Development Committee sponsors an Educator of the Year Award with funds provided by the Mechanical Contracting Education & Research Foundation (MCERF). MCAA Student Chapter members nominate their faculty advisors for the award, and the committee evaluates the nominations based on the following criteria:
- Chapter participation
- Mentoring
- Membership development
- Industry relations (maintains regular contact with MCAA local association sponsor and MCAA)
- Student internships (helps place student chapter members with mechanical contractors)
- Employment (helps place chapter members with mechanical contractors)
- Faculty internships (completed a summer internship with a mechanical or service contractor)
The committee evaluates and scores the nominations and chooses the winner, which is announced at the MCAA annual convention. The committee determines the prize amount annually.
