MEAC Faculty Boot Camp Scores Another Hit
The Mechanical Contracting Education & Research Foundation (MCERF) and the National Electrical Contractors Association's Electric International Foundation teamed up this year to co-sponsor the Mechanical-Electrical Academic Consortium's third "boot camp" for faculty members who teach construction management courses, but need more grounding in mechanical and electrical systems. This year, 26 faculty members came to Flagstaff, AZ for the three-day intensive workshop, which took place April 9 - 11. On the mechanical side, Prof. Ron Haggin of the University of Nebraska - Omaha taught Mechanical Properties and Air Conditioning Systems and Components; industry consultant Terry Flood led a session on Testing & Balancing, Temperature Controls, and System Conditioning; and Prof. Tim Wentz of the University of Nebraska - Lincoln taught sessions on Estimating Mechanical Construction and Planning & Scheduling Mechanical Construction. On the electrical side, Prof. Paul Oppenheim of the University of Florida led a session on Electrical Fundamentals; Prof. Russell Walters of Iowa State University taught sessions on Electric Power Distribution and Commercial/Industrial Systems; NECA Consultant Robert Mooty led a session on Electrical Estimating and Scheduling; and Prof. Erich Connell of East Carolina University taught Electrical Lighting Systems. Prof. Oppenheim also taught a session on laboratory exercises for both mechanical and electrical courses. The group also toured the new laboratory building at Northern Arizona University. Attendees gave high marks to the program and the quality of the information delivered. Thanks to Prof. Daryl Orth of Northern Kentucky University and Prof. Jack Patterson of East Carolina University for planning the conference.
